Let’s talk 4th of July style!
When I think of July 4th I get images of barbecues, fireworks and endless American flag paraphernalia. There’s nothing wrong with any of those things. It is after all America’s independence day and rightly so it’s a very celebratory event. Still, on this special day, I prefer to be inspired by the stars and stripes rather than literally wear the flag. A bit of red, white and blue goes a long way and you’ll never be mistaken for not getting into the spirit if you find a way to incorporate at least two out of those three colors into your 4th of July style.
You might be thinking right about now, “Oh that’s simple everyone has those three basic colors in their wardrobe!” Normally you would be right but for me, red is a scarce commodity in my closet. I don’t have anything against the color I just usually gravitate towards colors on the cooler spectrum and, I’m sure you could guess, lots of purple. When this holiday comes rolling around I usually end up wearing lots of denim, a summer dress that vaguely features one of the colors or I just show up in blue with a red lip and call it a day. As you can see I tend to take the lazy way out but no more!
This year, when I was approached by Farfetch.com to partake in a blogger contest to showcase my 4th of July style I thought it sounded like fun. Plus, I wanted to put my 4th of July style to the test and challenge myself to not only wear all three colors but to truly get into the spirit of the day. You can be inspired by the stars and stripes without having to be a clique or a walking American flag and I set out to put my previous lazy ways to rest.
If you aren’t already familiar with Farfetch they’re an e-commerce site with a focus on independent fashion that offers goods from fashion boutiques from around the world. Their offerings lean more on the high end side but they also offer relatively affordable pricing too (especially the sale section) depending on your budget.
While relying on the wares in my own closet and getting some inspiration from the items featured on Farfetch I came up with a look that is festive without overdoing it. Independence day is arguably the biggest social event of the American summer and I’m happy to say that I fully committed to the red, white and blue theme! You wont hear me saying things like “Merica” anytime soon but come Saturday I will probably be somewhere watching the fireworks and eating a firecracker ice pop in true 4th of July style.
